Online Forum
Welcome to our online forum for parents and carers.
Go straight to the forum topics
Who is it for?
Parents and carers of children and young people with special educational needs (SEN) who live in Somerset.
What does it offer?
The forum enables parents and carers to share their views about SEN provision in Somerset - what is going well, what could be better and what could be done differently? It is a joint project with the Special Education Needs group within Somerset County Council and is a key part of our parent participation strategy.
How does the forum work?
The forum works best at tackling generic issues that affect a number of people. By contributing to a small number of online topics each term, parents and carers can share their experiences and thoughts.
By working together we can make a difference to the services our children receive. And who better to make that change than you, their parents and carers!
Spring Term 2010 Forum Topics
Mike Turner, SEN Strategic Manager in the Local Authority will be co-ordinating responses to the forum posts from parents and carers.
"There are four key objectives, which the Local Authority expect to achieve through this project. It will enable parents to:
Topic 1 - Support for literacy difficulties (including dyslexia)
Tell us what your school is doing to identify and support children with literacy difficulties (including dyslexia).
What has been suggested as a way of working with your child at home to support what is happening in school?
Topic 2 - Transition (the process of moving from one school to another)
Responses on 14+ transition to adulthood (up to 25) would be encouraged.
Tell us what makes the transition process successful for children with SEN?
What would help to make it even better for transferring pupils and for you, as their parents or carers?
