Support for Practitioners

How can we help?

Somerset Parent Partnership Service can help schools, early years' settings and other agencies develop and maintain effective relationships with parents and carers.

We very much encourage parents and carers to be informed about the Parent Partnership Service when first discussing concerns about a child's special educational needs, especially when drawing up or reviewing an Individual Education Plan.

Somerset Parent Partnership Service can:

  • provide training for agencies, school staff, governors and parent helpers on a range of SEN topics;
  • offer guidance and support on setting up and maintaining parent groups;
  • advise on good practice for contacts with parents such as meetings, reviews, letters and telephone calls;
  • assist with literature for parents;
  • provide user-friendly information on sources of help and support for parents;
  • work alongside SENCOs with individual parents;
  • provide parents with an Independent Parental Supporter who is well-informed and trained;
  • signpost parents, schools and local authority staff to the Disagreement Resolution Service.
